« Quebec City: C’est Charmant! The Most Excellent Holiday Destinations In October »
August is the time when everyone looks to get away for vacations, and as a result almost all the places are crowded with tourists, which make it impossible to enjoy the summer holidays. This year, you take a route off the beaten track and beat the holiday crowds. Most of the destinations mentioned below are not an average tourist’s destination, so you can make the best of your time by deciding to go to any one of these places, and thus soak up some culture and enjoy your time in peace and harmony.
The first spot to visit is Bulgaria. This country is renowned for its low-cost holidays and low cost luxuries. Another popular destination is Pamporovo, which is acknowledged for its ski resorts in winter season, but in the summer converts into an ecological tourist destination with its fresh mountain air and striking mountain vistas.
Make sure you enjoy the culture and soak in the history by visiting Plovdiv, Tyrnovo, and Sofia (which is the country’s capital city) on your visits along the way. These three cities will demonstrate you the greatest of the country’s nightlife, shopping plazas, and entertainment. There are loads of historical locations that can be visited, along with the countless icons and manuscripts.
Another excellent spot for this year’s vacation is Hungary. This beautiful country is often unnoticed due to its low profile, but it offers plenty of historical sites and saunas, which in turn depends on whether you want to go on a regular tourist trip or just relax during your holiday. The Szechenyi Thermal Bath is a great spot with its complex of ponds filled with thermal water, saunas, open solaria, and baths.
Make certain that you visit Budapest, the Pearl of the Danube, which is one of the ten most gorgeous cities in Europe. Spend some time here looking at the rich architecture and loads of monuments the city is filled with. Go to the Buda Palace, the Fishing Bastion, and the Great Synagogue, or just hop on a city tour to make sure you don’t overlook any of the numerous tourist spots in this city. The Budapest Museum has works of Rafael and Leonardo amongst numerous other masters. So, if you are an art aficionado, make your way to this destination as well.s
The final vacation spot is not off the much beaten trail, and will definitely be very crowded in August. No holiday guide will be complete without mentioning the beauty of Italy. Century after century, visitors come from around the world to view the beauty of this country and its many splendours. Whether you come here for the beaches, the shopping, food, or the architecture, it is very easy to fall in love with Italy.
Go to Rome and view the Coliseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican. The city is a proud one because of the many architectural works it possesses. Visit Verona if you are romantic by nature and wish to see the city that inspired Shakespeare to write his many masterpieces. Florence, the capital, is filled with museums, and a history lover will find himself at home here. If you are in the mood to look at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, then head over to Pisa and see this wonder for yourself. Milan, the fashion capital of the world is next in line, and if you are interested in seeing the latest works of D&G or Armani, head down here to see them.
So, make sure that this summer you plan a great getaway for yourself and your loved ones by planning a holiday that you can remember with fondness. Plan a holiday that preferably takes you to a less crowded place, but at the same time provides you with a lot of enjoyment.

Hotels, hotels, hotels — can’t we just sleep in the car?!
Marine Hotel & Spa, was recently voted the Most Improved Hotel 2008 at the prestigous fifth annual Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards.
I think its got more to do with the star rating of hotel you stay at. I imagine (as I've never been rich enough to go to one!) that 5 star hotels still offer the kind of treatment that perhaps we think of as old fashioned – ie. A Head Conciearge who you could go to get you tickets for the opera or a table at a top restaurant. They also probably do all the nice fluffy bath robes and exotic lotions and potions in the bath (as opposed to the standard cheapo sachets of shampoo and soap).
I think the thing is that staying at hotel used to be a luxury that few could afford, so when they did they expected a certain high level of service. Those that couldn't afford it stayed at boarding houses, holiday camps and B&Bs. While more of us now stay at hotels, its usually at the lower end – say 1 to 3 stars – which have taken some of the market share away from the more traditional forms of holiday accommodation. We think we're getting a higher status of holiday, but in actual fact we're replacing good home cooking, friendliness and entertainment with soul-less travel lodges and motels.
