Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and contains canals, gondolas and amazing architecture. If you are planning a visit to this city, try and visit it in spring or fall to avoid the heat and tourist crowds. While in Venice, you can do many sightseeing activities like going to churches, museums, and other tourist attractions. You can also attend many events and other activities that are unique to this city.
The Voga Longa is a rowing competition which is held each year on the last day of May. The distance to be rowed is 32 kilometers, and this should be completed within three and a half hours in order to get a certificate. However, if you do not want a certificate, you can also participate for fun and take it as far away as you desire as long as you are in a human-powered vessel. This rowing race in fact originated as a protest against the power boats that were taking over the canals, but has now turned into an event. The racetrack goes through most parts of Venice, and people get together along the canals to encourage the contestants.
The Regata ‘Storica takes place in September on the first Sunday of the month. This celebrates an occasion that took place in 1489 by exhibiting almost one hundred types of Venetian boats. There are also races, contests, and additional opportunities for people to participate in.
Whilst in Venice, do not forget to take a ride on the Water Bus called Vaporetto at the time of sunset. The gorgeous sight is filled with the soft sunset light providing a mesmerizing picture, and is one of the best ways to remember Venice.
Though a Gondola is pricey, ranging from 80 Euro to 150 Euro you could bargain the price down to the lower amount if you are really interested in a ride. This is actually Venetian experience, so it is a better idea to budget for this prior to your trip, and don’t forget to take the ride. The best way to bargain the price as low as you could and then walk away, which will generally be followed by at least one gondolier, will follow you and reduce the price further. The discounted rate would get you less time, and fewer sights, so negotiate this with the gondolier in advance.
If you do not want a gondola ride, then you can cross the Grand Canal via traghetto. These are very cheap and are essentially gondolas that are too old to be used for that purpose. You can also visit the Rialto Bridge and the open air markets near it along with the Pescheria (fish market).
More over you could spend a day on one of the islands (like Murano or Burano) which you can reach via the many boat services. The Glass Museum in Murano is a must see as is the Lace Museum in Burano. Though, even only walking around on these islands is a very pleasant experience, and sitting at a caf and relaxing is also a good idea.
Venice is a beautiful city, so make sure you make the most of your trip and plan it in advance so you can budget for the activities you definitely want to participate in.

You want to do something marginaly helpful?
Write to congress to cut the crap and build Nuclear power plants as if there was no tomorrow.
We don’t need to save energy. We need MORE energy.
- Everyone wants to get rid of Oil… ok…I dig it.
- Everyone wants woop-dee-do electric eco-delicious-friendly green car.
HOW in God’s name are you going to power them ????
Don’t worry about nuclear waste… in the next 20 ~ 30 years we get fission going and we re-burn all that waste until is exhausted without needing to mine and use new ore for eons.
Las Vegas Hotels feature some of "THE" most advanced lighting technology in use today. Do you thing Casinos want to spend millions yearly in electricity bills? No.
Having them turning off the light most likely did not do anything. Street lighting alone is provably an order of magnitude in comparison.
I’m all for green, but in the right places.
Scientific American (2 months ago), article on global CO2 warming… What a load of crap!.
All global lndustry contribute 10% of CO2, cars = 12%, Energy generation = 14%, Agriculture = 23%, Beef = 40%, pultry = 20%, etc….
So kill all cars and you only save 12% of all CO2.
Shut down ALL industry and you only shave 10% of global CO2.
So unless you go veggie, and pedal your way to work and go back to pen and pencil and candle light, there’s nothing you can do that would even begin to impact the planet.
Which bring me to: Why was 2008 the coldest year of the century? [www.news.com.au]
Ah… go ahead buy your carbon credits.
I rather stick with Nuclear power, lots of it.
stupid idea. They will have sex. Get an adult to go.
I remember reading TripAdvisor’s 2008 "Best Values" list in Budget Travel and being dismayed that it was mostly chains. It seems they’ve put more of an emphasis on local hotels this year, thankfully, but I still think it’s time for the LGs (and their intrepid readers) to create their own list of hotels and hostels that have that perfect combination of character, service, and reasonable prices. (Like the Ninos Hotel in Cusco, Peru, for example, which I stayed at on the Lost Girls’ recommendation and absolutely loved.) What do you say, girls?
Excited for Cubs/Brewers game 4/11. Staying at Pfister, anyone been? One of the oldest hotels in the country. Got a great deal on a suite!

check hotels.com i don't think i've ever seen anything like Great Wolf, however I have seen others with waterparks and fun stuff. Where I live we have a Great wolf and an Americana which has a waterpark. Check that site, or try expedia.com or travelocity. You may find them that way. OR tripadvisor.com might have something.
Good luck
DVC promotes their timeshare as a savings of 70% off their equivalent hotel accommodations. This is true, as many of us members have “done the math” to confirm this statement before buying in. I admit that the initial pricetag will scare off some folk (those used to bargain hotels) but they were never the intended market for DVC deluxe hotels.
