Everyone should take short breaks; this is good for you and in the UK is easily done. There is a lot to do and see in this small island with a long history, and many destinations are very easy to reach by car, bus, plane or train. The public transport system is excellent so there is very little excuse for not taking short breaks in UK.

For the sake of this article we are going to talk about North Wales, it is right next door and is part of the UK. It is completely unique in that the people speak Welsh and a visitor who is unaccustomed to this language, might think they have arrived in another country when they try to get their tongue around the names.

Snowdonia fortunately is a name that everyone can get their tongue around, but how about “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch”, also a small village in North Wales, close to Snowdonia, in fact just across the Menai Straits on Angelsey, and it has to be seen to be believed. To master that name you would need longer than a short break!

Some of the best beaches in the UK have their home in North Wales, and Anglesey in particular has great beaches. Lligwy Beach is exquisite and has a Green Coast Award. You cannot driver faster than 10mph, but who wants to when so much beauty can be found. If you are a surfer the Llyn Peninsula and Black Rock Sands should be your destination. When the tide does out you are able to explore caves and caverns of different hued rock.

You will find the best walled towns in North Wales, the walls of Beaumaris Castle protect this medieval town. The names stems from Norman French and means “beautiful marsh” no other descriptive could be more apt! Like Lligwy beach, Beaumaris is situated on Anglesey (the large island at the top of North Wales), and I was blessed enough to have spent three of the happiest and most exciting years of my life on this Island. So you are getting it straight from the horse’s mouth!
