Planning a San Diego Vacation

by Josh Krundle

San Diego is one of many popular tourist destinations, partly due to the fact that the weather tends to be mild most of the year, making it easy to enjoy the outdoors. It makes a great destination for those who live in the north and want to get away from the winter weather.

The weather in San Diego is consistent, without much risk of hurricanes or tornadoes like some other popular destinations. You also won’t have to worry much about heavy seasonal rains or humidity since it is a bit far to the north for these weather conditions.

Beaches are one of the many attractions of San Diego. There are great places to go surfing, as well as beaches that are nice for laying out or spending time with your family. If this is your goal, consider getting one of the San Diego hotel rooms that are located near the beach.

Water activities play a large part in the San Diego lifestyle. Besides surfing, you can also go whale watching, take a harbor cruise, kayak, or sail. You can visit the Maritime Museum in order to learn more about the history of the port and the naval base that is located here.

Sea World will give you a chance to get an up close view of many of the animals that are found in the ocean. If you plan your visit right you might get to see one of the shows that are put on with seals, Orca whales, or dolphins as well as the many exhibits.

If you prefer to see land animals, you can check out the famous San Diego Zoo. Efforts have been made to make the habitats of the animals as natural as possible, and they have a well known panda exhibit that is very popular.

Those who like the idea of going on a safari can check out the San Diego Wild Animal Park to see African animals in a more natural habitat.

The water and animal attractions aren’t all there is to see in San Diego. There are also popular neighborhoods such as Balboa Park, where you can get a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants or visit a museum. You can also sit in a park and people watch or meet up with friends and family.

Kids will enjoy the different amusement parks available, such as Legoland and Belmont Park.

History buffs might like to eat in Old Town, where buildings have been preserved to make it possible to see what historic San Diego was like. Other great options for dining are available in the Gaslamp District, which is the major shopping and entertainment area in the center of the city.

People who enjoy watching sports can catch one of the Chargers or Padres games. Those who prefer to play sports themselves can take advantage of the many opportunities available, including a large number of golf courses.
