How Travel Agents Can Help You

by Paul Summers

There was a time when you would probably have to queue to see your tour operator to book a vacation but the internet has seen the number of travel agents visited dwindle, as more booking takes place online. It is not only because you can book your vacation form the comfort of you home but generally, it will be less expensive as well. While the internet does have its benefits and I admit to using it to look for vacations and learn more about where I want to visit, I still prefer to have a travel agent in person to sit in front of and actually book the vacation as well as my hotel and transport.

It is actually much easier to go to your travel agent armed with all the information including costs as it can make it much easier to find what you are looking for. I certainly don’t want to spend my time, or their time, looking into trying to find a travel deal that I can afford if I already know that I cannot. As every country has different laws, your travel representative can be helpful if you intent to travel to an international destination.

They know all of the fees for entering and exiting the countries so not only can they give you the facts, but they make recommendations on where you may want to travel and what there is to see and do. Make no mistake, while the internet is undoubtedly very efficient, it is also quite impersonal and will not be able to give the assurances a travel representative can about your travel arrangements. I can’t help it because I just like dealing with someone face to face and know that there is a certain amount of care involved with my travel arrangements which is something I do not feel the internet caters for.

While it is easy and usually cheaper to do all you’re booking online, it is not so helpful when something goes wrong and you have to complain; something the travel agent is there for as well. The benefits of seeing a person was highlighted when my husband and I wanted to get married and fortunately we found a travel agent that was on exactly the right wavelength as us.

The lady was very pleasant and couldn’t be more helpful so after a half hour chat I had a good idea where the best place for weather on our wedding was as well as a range of other services we might need. Once we had sorted out the budget she was able to give us plenty of options and was incredibly helpful in locating companies that could provide special services. She booked our vacation that same afternoon and even put us in touch with a wedding coordinator at the resort and it turned out wonderfully, just as she promised.

I’m also a fan of travel agents over using the internet because if you end up booking the vacation from hell, you have no one to blame but yourself whereas if you used a travel agency, at least you’ll have someone to complain too.
