Anglesey is a large beautiful island located off the coast of North Wales in the United Kingdom. The island is located close to the Snowdonia National Park and the towns of Bangor and Caernarfon are located nearby. Anglesey is famous for its beautiful beaches and self catering holidays and watersports are very popular.

Anglesey has a terrific history with historic sites such as Beaumaris Castle which is located in the town of Beaumaris on the islands east coast. Beaumaris Castle was built over 800 years ago during King Edward I’s of England’s reign. Beaumaris Castle was sadly never finished but is still considered to be one of the finest examples of its type in the world.

There’s plenty to do outdoors on Anglesey from activities and farm parks to coastal walks. There are two country parks located near Holyhead on the islands west coast. Penrhos Nature Reserve is a chance to view many of Anglesey’s native species and is just a few minutes from the centre of Holyhead.

Built at the time of the Holyheads’ breakwater The Breakwater Country Park stretches along the shores of Holyhead mountain. Take advantage of the many country walks taking in wonderful views of the port and mountain. If you feel fit enough walk over to South Stack, Anglesey’s primary lighthouse, which stands on its own rocky outcropping at the most western point of the island and can only be reached by crossing a narrow suspension bridge high above the raging sea below.

Watersports fans love Anglesey with its many wonderful beaches. On the islands south coast is the village of Rhosneigr with two wonderful beaches. You’ll find a wide variety of watersports going on at Rhosneigr such as sailing, fishing, diving, and canoeing.

If you fancy going more upmarket then Anglesey can cater to your needs as well. There are a number of high quality hotels on the island including the Tre Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel which is located close to the town of Llangefni in the centre of the island. Two other popular hotels worth looking at are the Trearddur Bay Hotel and The Bulkeley Hotel.
