Hotels in San Francisco are much more expensive than other cities, especially those nearer the city’s best tourist attractions.

Some people say that if you want an affordable hotel in San Francisco, you will have to forego quality and location to stay in one you prefer. In many instances, this is not true. Due to the increasing number of hotels in San Francisco, rates are dropping. You can find quality hotels at a more reasonable cost. The key to finding the most suitable hotel for you is to know where you can get the best value for your money.

Hotels in a tourist attraction, such as the Fisherman’s Wharf, cost over $300 a night on the average. Most tourists usually find these rates unaffordable. If you look around, you will quality hotels in this area for as little as $140 a night. When looking for hotels, the first one you will find may not necessarily be the best choice. There are some hotels that allow children below 18 years of age to stay for free. So, if you are traveling with your family, this will save you a lot of money.

If you really want to spend less, don’t stay at hotels near the airport, since they are generally a lot more expensive than those near the central part of the city. Airport hotel rates are around 40% higher than those farther from the airport. For those who are cautious with their budget, hotels farther from the airport are a more popular choice.

Sometimes the kind of hotel you are looking for matter less. All you want is to find one that will not cost you too much. In San Francisco, there are many types and places to choose from.

Check out the Staybridge Suites in Memphis, TN. They are awesome hotels. My husband has worked for them in CA and in TX and they are by far the best extended stay hotels out there.

You have to pay for things – if tickets are going to be offered for free, you'll pay for them some other way in the price of the hotel package, since the hotel has to pay the studios. Best to buy your hotel rooms seperately i think.

Holiday Inn Universal Studios Hollywood provides a complimentary shuttle
which is liteally a few minutes away.

Other hotels offerering discounts in the area are shown here if you put your dates in : – with the money you save you could also rent a car or use a taxi cab as another option.

I hate to be hateful about this, but I am extremely mad at our legislature right now. The specter of MARTA cuts saddens me, but the larger transportation mess we’re in is truly disgusting and exasperating, in that the legislature would rather play politics and get huffy with one another than do the right thing. I hope they feel the wrath of voters when gas goes back up to $4 and everyone’s stuck in traffic, and when Atlanta starts losing convention business because the rail line from Hartsfield-Jackson to the downtown hotels and convention centers is severed one day a week.

Carolyn, former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell has an explanation, though only part of the story: Lester Maddox got it that way because of a fear of “winos” riding it all day (word to Lester’s ghost — a fare didn’t, and doesn’t, stop them). Mind you, Massell’s pipe-dream dream of a fareless system was crazy in pragmatic terms, but still, the 50/50 funding restriction is ludicrous.

And to the critics saying that MARTA’s leaders are getting what they deserve from any actual or perceived mismanagement: please realize the whole mess is screwing hundreds of thousands of people over. Including me. My car is held together on duct tape and hope. I can’t afford a new one, and if it goes out, I rely on the transit system alone. I also use the system to get back and forth to work downtown from Atlanta-in-DeKalb.

Also, no one has yet mentioned that MARTA being closed on Fridays might hurt passengers from Cobb, Gwinnett, etc. who are ferried in by GRTA or their local transit agencies for work. Not everyone works right where the Xpress bus stops, and often a whole slew of folks get off the buses from suburbia at MARTA Civic Center Station to go elsewhere.

WTF! Labour MPs, one Liberal Democrat and an Independent spent up to five nights in upmarket hotels.

If they want to study people getting shit faced just go down to the centre of any large town mid week!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Viggo… and I’m sure travelling to promote a film is tiring… But I get kind of annoyed when mega-rich movie stars complain about it. As someone who only does one or two films a year, Viggo only has to maintain that hectic schedule for relatively short periods of time, so what’s the big deal? He flies first class, he stays in 5-star hotels, he eats in fabulous restaurants, and all on the film company’s tab! Yeah, life is hard.

I know, I know, I’m speaking as someone who hasn’t had a real vacation in over five years and would practically kill for a night in a 5-star hotel. But Viggo needs to get some perspective.

My parents are retired and live in a cruise departure city. My mom subscribes to all of these deal sites, and they jump on pretty much any cheap cruise that leaves their city. If you don’t have to deal with airfare and hotels, a cruise can actually be pretty affordable.
